I’ve yet to meet a parent who didn’t go into a spin after their first baby arrived. Everything changes. Your free time disappears, your energy levels take a nosedive, and your head becomes filled with advice from your nearest and dearest to strangers you meet on the street.

Becoming a mum is by far the most incredible, intense, difficult, wonderful thing that’s ever happened to me.
And if you think about it, it’s probably the most important time to be at your best physically, mentally and emotionally.
But our new creations are the reason we can’t sleep at night, we’re recovering from the birth, and our hormones settling back down are wreaking havoc with our emotions.
It took me a while to realise though, that it’s not about showing others the best you can be it’s about showing you.

So I went on a mission to make my new life with three boys as easy and enjoyable as possible. When you go easy on yourself life becomes easy. And when I resisted the temptation to overcomplicate things, I began to feel lighter and happier.
I wanted to slow down and enjoy this precious time while at the same time become more efficient. I wanted to increase my energy, feel happier, be more organised, be a better wife and mum, and ultimately enjoy the journey.
Strive to have less to do not to get more done
I started to jot down notes to help me; logging my thoughts on post-it’s on my kitchen dresser and on an app on my phone. True parenting, when you fit in what you can when you can.
From this shoebox of notes and reams of lists on my phone I wrote a plan for myself. I called it The Flow Technique. A field guide to life with kids.

What became clear very early on was that simplifying and getting organised were paramount to me flourishing as a mum instead of troubleshooting to survive.
When I followed the 10 simple steps I set for myself my instincts and intuition became sharper. I became a better problem solver, there was more order in the home and better empathy. I became calmer and happier, and I was more in line with the Mum I always envisioned I was going to be.
I realised I was creating a blueprint to guide me and also a series of reminders to never forget the most important things in life.
