Banana tea

The ultimate sleep hack! 

If you love the idea of a tasty drink before bed that is known to help you sleep better read on for the recipe!

What you'll need:

  • Two whole organic bananas
  • 600 ml water 

How to make it:

Gently rinse the bananas under running water to remove any dirt and debris. Remove the ends of the bananas. With the peel on, slice the bananas into a few pieces.

Place them in a small pot and add the water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 10 minutes, then strain the liquid into a jug removing the banana. At this point you can add a dash of vanilla essence and a sprinkle of cinnamon for some extra flavour.

Yields two cups.

Drink an hour before bed.

How banana tea works to aid sleep:

Banana peel contains magnesium and potassium, two nutrients that help the muscles of the body relax.

Bananas also contain the amino acid L-tryptophan, which gets converted to 5-HTP in the brain. The 5-HTP, in turn, is converted to serotonin (a relaxing neurotransmitter) and melatonin. (Source).
